During non-laser cataract surgery, the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens implant using traditional surgical implements and blades. Laser assisted cataract surgery allows your surgeon to perform cataract surgery without the use of any blades.
The LenSx femtosecond laser utilizes a beam of laser light to create the necessary incisions for cataract surgery. The size, shape and location of each incision are precisely programmed by Dr. Porter allowing a more predictable and reproducible procedure.
This state-of-the art technology combined with the surgeon’s skills produce extraordinary results. The level of customization obtained with LenSx laser cataract surgery is revolutionary and virtually unattainable with conventional surgical methods.
Once the LenSx laser procedure is complete and the cataract is removed, a refractive lens implant is placed inside the eye to improve your vision.
The LenSx system captures high-resolution images to map the eye and provide the surgeon detailed measurements, delivering significantly more accuracy than traditional procedures. With LenSx, a computer-guided laser replaces traditional surgical blades, making cataract surgery completely pain-free. LenSx delivers better vision and faster healing.
No. The actual treatment itself is painless. You will be given plenty of anesthetic drops to completely numb the eye. You may feel a light pressure sensation around your eye, and after the procedure is finished you will feel a sensation our patients describe as gritty or like a lash in your eye for a few hours…but most people experience very little pain. We will give you a prescription for a pain reliever should you need it, but most people need nothing more than Tylenol or Advil and a little rest time.
Although everyone shares these concerns, we take measures to ensure that moving or blinking is not a problem. Your eye will be held open with a holder supporting your lid so that you cannot blink. The holder is placed immediately before the treatment and removed immediately afterward. Lying still during the treatment is another common concern. The bed of the laser has a contoured headrest with an indent, which allows the back of your head to rest securely, but comfortably in place.
While eyes all share the same basic anatomy, your eyes are totally unique when it comes to their size, depth, curvature, and other key features. The LenSx® Laser allows CSSA to plan and perform a procedure that is completely customized for each of your eyes. For more than a decade, femtosecond lasers have helped surgeons perform LASIK with unparalleled precision and accuracy. Now the LenSx® Laser brings advanced accuracy and reproducibility to cataract surgery.
